SAVAGE SERVICES

ETS Web Application

Developing a new ETS application was needed for Savage Services to simplify processes throughout the company. Savage recently acquired Environmental Sector (Enviroserve) and provides emergency response, environmental remediation, and waste management solutions for customers across the United States.

VIEW FULL CASE STUDY
THE PROBLEM

The original application used by field agents, was poorly pieced together by using borrowed processes and systems from other applications to track and manage their jobs and projects. The solution was to bring all of these systems into one application with a desired outcome of providing easier workflows, processes, and completion of time sensitive projects.

THE PROCESS

Based on insight from user testing and white boarding, I created various low-fidelity wireframes showing simpler workflows and processes. Throughout testing, it showed most processes and workflows could be condensed and would improve efficiency throughout fieldworkers and staff.

THE RESULTS

“Steve brought a fresh perspective to our product team, which led us to do a full redesign of the application that we were building. During that process, Steve worked well with the team and contributed from the beginning to implementation. He always listened carefully to the feedback on his designs, and would simply resolve to find a better approach to the problem.”

ODYSSEY RELOCATION

Corporate Rebrand and Website Redesign

The name “Odyssey” tends to be futuristic, innovative, and ahead of their time, but their current style and brand was stuck in the Apollo missions lost at sea.

THE PROBLEM

The name “Odyssey” tends to be futuristic, innovative, and ahead of their time, but their current style and brand was stuck in the Apollo missions lost at sea. Although a successful full-service relocation company for over 30 years, Odyssey lacked having a current company brand and style, and the project offered many exciting possibilities and opportunities to assist Odyssey in updating their brand for current and future clients.

THE PROCESS

Odyssey started as a small update of new brand colors and fonts, and quickly evolved which lead to a full overhaul. Through discovery with user research and developing new architecture, to developing an updated style guide with new colors, fonts, imagery, and flow, to developing a full custom WordPress design, Odyssey Relocation has given new life to their online presence and future marketing to their clients.

THE RESULTS

With simplifying the clients journey through relocation by removing many unnecessary processes and introduced step-by-step processes and workflows, the new Odyssey site has personality and a calmness to it. Which allows the client to feel at ease in knowing that Odyssey is with them every step of the way in their relocation journey.

JP STRONG

Passion Project

When you see children going through hard things and are passionate about an organization and the community, you try to do what you can to help. I had an opportunity to not only meet a hero of mine, but help raise money on his behalf.

VIEW PASSION PROJECT
TSHIRT DESIGN

To help support JP Gibson and his fight of cancer for the 2nd time in his short life, I designed a shirt that celebrated his love for the Utah Jazz. The Utah Jazz did a 1 time print of 5oo shirts to launch the #JPStrong campaign and the shirts sold out within minutes. It was then that this cause really started to take off and gain traction.

NBA APPROVAL

“We love what you’re doing, but let’s make sure we do it the right way.” The Utah Jazz then sent me over a contract to sign over the rights to the JP Strong logo and get approvals from the NBA. It was told to me that approvals usually take a few months, but I had approval within 30 minutes. And the next thing to do was let the Jazz promote the shirt.

$12K RAISED

Through making the shirt available on an online sale and selling out in a few short minutes, to the Utah Jazz players promoting and buying shirts, to dedicating a home game to JP, there was over $12,500 donated and raised to the Gibson family to help in their medical bills and fight.

TESTOUT CORPORATION

Senior Designer/Art Director

TestOut corporation was a great place to develop my Art Director skills but also an opportunity to focus on developing and evolving a corporate brand. Through creating new brand direction, company swag, and mentoring those developing design skills.

EXPERIENCE SPOTLIGHT
UX/UI DESIGN

The TestOut Software and platform is a constantly evolving system with various student labs, experiences, and worksheets. To make sure TestOut is providing the best possible experience for students and educators required a lot of user testing, changing workflows, new landing pages, and new product pages.

BRAND DESIGNER

The TestOut Brand was a very solid brand when I started and had good bones behind it. Throughout my time, I evolved the brand to give each product its own separate brand that allowed us to reach different demographics of customers and market to different schools, students and educators. With these changes TestOut had their best month in sales in the 30 year history of the company the next quarter.

ART DIRECTOR/MENTOR

Through my time I helped mentor various junior designers and individuals within the company who wanted to learn basic design skills. This was a time that I enjoyed teaching, challenging, and helping others see their potential and eventually develop their own campaigns. With being a small team it also allowed other departments to take initiative and allow me to give direction.

MOUNTAIN AMERICA CREDIT UNION

Senior Digital Designer

Mountain America Credit Union opened many doors for me to expand my skillset and develop into a senior designer that had advanced knowledge in design, process, art direction, and developing strong empathy for the good that being a designer can bring.

EXPERIENCE SPOTLIGHT
DIGITAL DESIGN

Coming in as a Senior Designer at Mountain America Credit Union, I was entrusted to take the lead on various digital marketing campaigns which involved landing page design and development, email marketing campaigns, digital ad campaigns, and various UX/UI needs throughout the company. Being a senior designer I was also able help mentor and guide junior designers in brand standards and expectations.

PRINT DESIGN

There were various marketing campaigns where I took the lead in creative design for print and web campaigns. This included setting up shot lists with videographers, acting as photographer on various sets, managing talent and photographers on sets, developing initial concept of print design of various in branch materials, sign-off from executives, QA, and final launch of the in branch campaigns.

EMPLOYEE PORTAL

Before I joined the MACU team I was contracted to build and design the intranet and that role stayed with me throughout my years at MACU. The site evolved as employees and internal communication received feedback, performed user tests, and ran reports of what information was most useful to the employees. Using MS Sharepoint as a platform it was a skillset and project I enjoyed staying involved with.
